4/25/18
An inexpensive and easy life hack - use a permanent marker to write the date you changed batteries and home/car air filters!!
Do you remember when you last changed the batteries in your smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, the filters in your furnace or filters in your car (engine air and cabin air)? Some people like to replace items annually on Jan 1, their birthday etc. Others do it when the remember to do so. Having a set date for replacements is a great idea and use a marker to confirm!
Changing filters sooner or later than needed will impact the air that you breathe, while forgetting to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (if take replaceable batteries) can be deadly.
Use a permanent marker/Sharpie to write the date (i.e 4/25/18) on these items when they were changed - this way you will know for sure and you won't replace too early or too late.
Unlike a standard ink pen, a soft tip marker will write on just about anything...
When Golden Rule monitors a home for its owner we use this simple tool to help the owner keep track of maintenance items like filters and batteries. Simple to do, costs next to nothing, provides invaluable information and once a replacement is dated then you can't forget when it was changed
